penang day 2 (part 1) -- street art, camera museum & art is rubbish

we started our day around 8 am today by continuing our hunt for street art at armenian street. yesterday, i was malu2 la nak pose gila2 because there were so many people watching me while waiting for their turn. but this morning, the streets were less crowded so we had more time to take photos and act silly with the murals. so fun! haha.

the artworks are scattered all around george town. luckily, the map that min and meksha got for us yesterday has all their locations. so i used the map as my panduan and checklist. alhamdulillah, we're able to locate almost all popular murals in only a few hours. kudos to us!

then we visited the camera museum at muntri street. the ground floor is free to enter and nicely decorated with old cameras, artworks and posters. it also has a gift shop and a cafe. the students entrance fee to go upstair was rm10.00. instead of waiting for the guided tour, we did the tour alone. basically, there were a lot of vintage cameras on display, history stuffs and "special" rooms (one of them is a dark room where people used to develop images). it's kinda cool but there's nothing much to see honestly.

hey, mr. photographer. i think i'm ready for my close-up.

we also lepak at its cafe, double exposure. fyi, we've been looking for cafes that offer halal or at least pork-free menu. surprisingly, it's so hard to find muslim-friendly restaurants in george town :( so after scanning its menu and convinced that the cafe is "appropriate" for us, i ordered myself one iced cappuccino (rm9.50). the cafe had a simple decoration yet cosy. the staffs were really friendly. they have this soft board where they put on photos of their customers (including us) from all over the world. however, our coffees's presentation and taste could have been better. other than serving them in "camera lenses", they were pretty plain.

double exposure (pun intended).

next in our to-do list was to attend the 'art is rubbish' exhibition  by ernest zacharevic at hin company bus depot. zacharevic is the famous lithuanian artist who has been decorating penang with his street art. this exhibition is only available from 17 january to 14 february. we're so lucky to have this chance! his artworks are just so unique and fascinating! i was hoping i could see him but he was absent.

while admiring the artworks, a group of chinese tiba2 kecoh. rupa2nya malaysia's supermodel, amber chia and another chinese male celebrity (who's less famous) were there too. tapi cheq buat dunno je lah sebab cheq tak minat kat depa. eheks! after dah puas jalan2 kat exhibition, i decided to look for the famous gerai cendol in penang.

to be continued...
