travel throwback: new zealand (part 2) -- queenstown & arrowtown

after visiting christchurch, we took a flight to queenstown. and the moment i stepped out of the plane, i instantly fell in love with the stunning view. comey lote!

new zealand, i'm in love!

* fun fact: the aborigines in nz are known as the maoris. besides english, their language is also used in nz. when translated into maori, nz is 'aotearoa' and queenstown is 'tahuna'.

we rented a car and a gps because we wanted to do road trips. and we stayed in a cottage that was surrounded by mountains.

where we stayed.

i was the ajk makanan. so i had to prepare us food everyday to save money. walaupun kitorang makan ala kadar je, we always bought ourselves a big bottle of milk (brand: meadow fresh). seriously, susu dia murah dan sedap gila! we all ketagih!

ala kadar sajo!

sik fan!

kadang2 kitorang lepak la kat living room after dinner.

this milk! so yummeh!

to go to the town, we had to pass by this place called shotover. setiap kali lalu tempat tu, kitorang mesti macam, "wah, cantiknyaaaa! we have to singgah here one day!" and when we did, somehow tempat tu reminded me of harry potter punya film setting. haha.

maybe it was that classic-looking bridge and pokok2 kuning tu kot.

*jeles*

tu dia orang2 banyak pitis tengah tunggu turn.

the town is not that big pun but it's a nice place to jalan2, tengok kedai2, beli souvenirs and enjoy the view of wakatipu lake. there were some ships and nice cafes at the lakeside. and the scenery was breathtaking!

the town.

waktu petang and most shops were closed already.

wakatipu lakeside.

the harbour.

dulu excited gila dapat tengok gunung bersalji (kat belakang tu). haha.

* fun fact: wakatipu lake is one of the shooting locations for lord of the ring!

another must-do in queenstown is riding a gondola to the top of bob's peak. you can also do bungee jumping here. being miskin, pengecut and all, of course none of us did it. but we did something less extreme. we rode luge!

gondola.

inside the gondola. check out the view!

bungee jumping: not for the faint-hearted (and the miskin).

to ride luge, we had to use a chairlift to go to the puncak bukit. dari atas, kitorang racing lah uolls turun ke bawah dengan luge tu. best gilos! kitorang beli voucher untuk main 3 kali. it was jolly fun!

ready to rempit!

inilah chairlift tu.

benda hitam kat bawah chairlift tu lah 'luge' nye.

tempat kami racing. haha.

rempit uolls!

then, we went to the viewing deck. and the permandangan (needless to say) memang cantiklah! everywhere i look, i felt like i was looking at gambar poskad!

very the gambar poskad.

there's also a place nearby queenstown called arrowtown, a historic gold mining town. basically, dulu ada sorang ni terjumpa emas kat sini, then a lot of people came here to gali emas and slowly the place bloomed into a small town. the original buildings are still preserved and used today as shops, restaurants, hotels, pejabat pos, balai polis, muzium etc. we also visited its old church, gaol/jail and this war memorial.

arrowtown, bebeh!

saja letak gambar ni sebab aku rasa gambar ni cantik. haha.

that's what they used before smartphones were invented. lol.

again, saja letak gambar ni sebab macam nampak bergaya. kuikuikui.

st patrick's church.

since 1875.

sebab takde kunci, mampu jenguk kot lubang pintu jelah.

the overview of arrowtown from the top of a hill (where the monument is).

that's pretty much what we did in queenstown and arrowtown. next, i'll write about our road trip to milford sound (my favourite part of the trip!)

p/s: some photos are suhaimi's and chiah's.
